Two days not spending, then what!? A Car?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Yep. Two days without spending, and then I book a car for a week through Auto Europe. I love renting from them, mostly because I’ve had great luck with the cars and service. So for a measly $278.19 I get my own little Renault Megane for 7 whole days! In March, that is. Sure, I [...]

Sugar sunshine for a cloudy day

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Today I spent $1.50 on an ooey gooey cupcake at Sugar Sweet Sunshine (the owners of that great little picture to the left). January tends to be a tricky month for me–clouds obscure sunshine, I need sunshine. Luckily there are chocolate-y sugar fixes for such days.
I paid cash.
The actual reality of the grand cupcake [...]

More textbooks

Monday, January 26th, 2009

This time the culprit is a course packet–a friend and I are sharing the packet, so the total came to $20.00. I paid her in cash.
Since course packets aren’t something I really have any desire to spend money on, I’m going to have to post something I want . . .

A vertical garden. Like Patrick [...]

A day of non-consumption

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Sundays, for me, are a day off. I take a break from my regular exercise routine, I spend extra time talking with friends and family, and I “opt out” of the consumption cycle.
I would be lying if I said I’ve never purchased anything on Sundays–but those occasions are reserved for emergencies or travel.

Grocery shopping Saturday

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Yesterday’s late-evening grocery shopping was limited by one annoying little factor: me. That meant that this morning’s first bit of business, after email checking and fridge rummaging, was to grab my little grocery cart and walk the half mile to the nearest grocery store.
Before heading out, I checked the circular online to determine whether anything [...]

Head pain and food

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Fridays should never start out with headaches. Mine did. Once I made it out of the house (after a frantic search for my keys–maybe I need a beeper attached to them?) and into the city I found some ibuprofen.  At Kmart. Can you believe there is a Kmart in Manhatten???
120 small red tablets later and [...]

Book buying

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Today started out with a financial sock to the stomach–school’s started, and books are screaming “buy me!!” To save a bit, I am checking out as many of my required readings as are available from the public library or school library. I managed to whittle down my purchasing needs to six books.
Total spent on books: [...]

Consuming my consumption

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

For the next four months I am documenting everything I spend money on. To make things fun, I will break down how I “purchase” things: cash, credit, debit, barter . . .
Today I purchased:

Two double-plus loads of laundry and 96 minutes of drying time, $10.50

One hot chocolate from Max Brenner, $4.95+ $0.415 tax = $5.37, [...]
